With today's tight labor market, employers are increasingly open to hiring individuals based upon skills, rather than degrees or other formal credentials.  This creates a great opportunity for individuals who prefer gaining skills through self-study. It is becoming easier to obtain training on-line through e-Learning courses.

Employers can also expand their pool of job candidates by offering preparatory training prior to the job application process. With modern technology, employers can record focused training and deliver it online, including on mobile.

HIring based upon skills is not only a great way to expand your applicant pool, it can also increase your diversity and inclusion efforts. This is something the Society for Human Resource Management is taking seriously.  To read more about recent SHRM efforts to collaborate with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commisions read SHRM Chief of Staff Joins EEOC Discussion on Skills-Based Hiring.
